Porcelain Veneers in Santa Barbara

A Porcelain Veneer is a thin, semi-translucent laminate that is bonded permanently to your teeth. While porcelain veneers are not suitable for every patient, they are the most aesthetic alternative for a variety of dental conditions, including: gaps or spaces between the front teeth, broken teeth, permanently stained or discolored teeth, cracked teeth.

The benefits and advantages of having porcelain veneers placed on your teeth include the speed of the procedure, which can be completed in two visits.

Additionally, a healthy, natural look and feeling is most easily achieved with veneers. They are healthy and biocompatible. Porcelain veneers are made of the most biocompatible material you can use this close to your delicate gum tissue and the alveolar bone.

Porcelain veneers are much different than dental bonding. Bonding is a resin filling material used to cover the front surface of teeth. Today, we generally use bonding only to fill in small surfaces of cavities and repair chips in teeth. A full crown is used when a tooth has had root canal treatment, or when a substantial amount of the entire tooth structure (enamel) has been lost. Porcelain veneers are applied to the front of teeth to lengthen ground down teeth, repair cracks, cover discoloration and alter the shape or hide crookedness and gaping. When bonded to the teeth, the ultra-thin porcelain veneers are virtually undetectable and highly resistant to coffee, tea or other staining agents. For strength and appearance, their resemblance to healthy, white tooth enamel is unsurpassed by other restorative options.

At the first appointment, the teeth are prepared for the porcelain veneers and an impression is taken. This impression is sent to a lab where each porcelain veneer is custom made to the dentist's specifications. While you wait for your permanent veneers, attractive temporaries are fabricated to simulate your new smile. You can expect to leave the first appointment with a beautiful new smile! At the second appointment, the porcelain veneers are permanently adhered to your natural teeth.
